You probably have a nickname - please tell us the story behind it.
I have several nicknames, but they usually call me "Röschel" which derives from my first name.
Do you remember your first day on a snowboard?
That was on a small lift above our village. I was rather intimidated because the chairlift kept kicking me off because I had no idea how to get on and off it with just one foot in the binding. But when I finally managed to do it, I was the happiest man on earth.
How did you learn new tricks back in the days?
I saw most of my tricks in snowboard movies and I tried to imitate them. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. The main thing is that you have fun, then learning is so much easier, and then your trick repertoire just increases.
Why have you never stopped snowboarding since then?
Because snowboarding is so much fun. It will not get boring because it’s so versatile, whether you ride on the mountain or in the valley. Even in bad weather you'll find interesting things to do. You can just get on your board, be creative, and feel free.
You probably have visited a bunch of different ski resorts already. What’s your favourite place, what was the most exotic and where would you like to live and ride in the future?
At home. You can get away with your friends and just go riding, and you know the territory and you know where the good spots are. Of course, I also go to other places but it’s never the same. When I was in Laax the first time there were so many boxes and rails and consequently, too many people. You tend to think you can’t live up to this and you lose the fun of it. I really like Saas Fee, I spend a lot of time there in the summer, too, and I can well imagine myself getting old there.
You also must have seen tons of snowboard videos in the past. What’s your favourite video part and why do you remember it?
My favourite movie is "King Size" by Marco Lutz Production. This film has inspired me so much. One day I wanted to buy myself an X-Box, and I noticed that there was a DVD in the player already. I was so stoked when I watched the movie on the DVD, I had to watch it again and again. Luckily, it had snowed already at that time so I grabbed my snowboard and went up the mountain. From that day I knew nothing but snowboarding. I’m still wondering what I would have become if I had not bought the X-Box…
Let us know about your favourite trick! Do you have any specials in your trick bag?
My favourite trick is updated regularly. At the moment it’s what I call Cab 180 with a strobo effect. It’s a simple trick, but so much fun.
What do you like most about Völkl Snowboards?
Firstly, it’s the boards. Very nice design, more beautiful and technical every season. But it's also the team, a cool Force team with a cool front man. And there is one unforgettable trip. We are all like a big family.
What about entertainment? Let us know about your gigabytes of MP3s and videos!
With or without porn?
How do you make your stomach happy? You must have some favourite drinks and food?
I love eating chips, it pushes me. Otherwise, I think a real big mixed salad is tasty. On weekends I like to drink beer, or just water.
What was your best experience in life so far?
Getting my first car, I felt so independent and free. I could go anywhere I wanted with whom I wanted. That was a great feeling.
And finally, what is your biggest dream?
Stay healthy, cross the Atlantic with a sail boat and become 500 years old to see what happened to our planet.
Go out and just have fun!
